he looks remarkably like this. i typed "fat scary child" into image ripper.
its the end of my first full week at the new school and i’ve had a pretty good time. i had my first observation and got a ‘good’ rating, i’ve got to know the kids and they like me and i’m starting to think this place isn’t so bad after all.
well, most of the time. we had a staff meeting on monday night and one of the topics was facebook. turns out that parents have been going on and talking shit about other parents, children in the school and staff. then this morning i was casually walking down from the staff room with my cup o’lemsip (another dose of child germs) and i heard the headteacher remark casually “oh that’s good news” when a fat man-ish woman rolled behind him saying “i didn’t get arrested in the end”. just another day. for you and me. in paradise.

this game is awesome.
even using the walkthrough (i honestly couldn’t imagine doing it without it) it took me best part of an hour and i still felt like i’d accomplished something.
cheers, rps.

what a hero.
i couldn’t help but cement my opinion that people who read tabloids, apart from the obvious tardation, should be ’stopped’ somehow. a simple news search would have highlighted just how fucking naive you have to be to read ‘the mirror’ et al.
breathe in that headline. “fairytale episode at last for a fighter“.
even better: “goody definitively showed us all exactly what she’s made of.”

it was unexpected.
its the day before the start of the new term. i’ll be teaching from tomorrow for six weeks and am really looking forward to it.
i spent most of last week in my dressing gown having caught another cold/flu from a new set of children/germs. before we broke for half term i agreed to do the maths planning for this week and said i’d have it over to my mentor by tuesday. i let her know it would be late and by friday i was feeling better. we’d already worked out the bare bones of it and i just had to create the filler – i started on friday afternoon and emailed it across a few hours later. i have to admit, it wasn’t my greatest effort but i had some good ideas in there. i was pretty surprised when she sent that email.
i’ve gotten used to doing all the planning for every subject i teach because that was the way it was done in my last placement. they said you’re teaching x, its about y and i got on with it. because there’s more than one year 3 class, i’ve been emailed lesson plans for pretty much the rest of the term so i think i might be rolling on easy street from now on.
there’s something else i’ve realised. i’ve done a weeks worth of planning, but it won’t be just me teaching it. other teachers (and students) will be teaching from it this week too and that’s pretty fucking ninja.
cheers, meg.

the belly.
i wanted something easy and pork belly related. i’d recommend this recipe, its easy and fairly cheap.
i got about five meals out of it.
cheers, goodfood.

i’ve been thinking about making a new topic about how to rule the world ( at the moment its mostly links from wikileaks) but i am interested in crime – i’ve always thought i would make a good/middling criminal. bank robberies that sort of thing. maybe when i’m older.
i came across these two unconnected stories and something clicked in my head (probably from too many dystopian sci-fi novels/movies).

our last dt lesson
the last couple of weeks seem to have gone by pretty fast.
i’m in my second placement now, a very, very different school. more on that after i briefly talk about last week, the couple of days this week i had in college and the last ict lesson – that i taught a part of.
oh, and i made three children do lines yesterday.
“i will listen to the teacher”.

mine
i ended up using another recipe because i realised that laocook measures his ingredients in “some”.
within the first couple of minutes of steaming i could tell it was going to be delicious.
cheers, mmm-yoso.

piece of shit
cheers to the man/woman who put together the exercise bike i got from the charity shop and has lasted all of a month (i’ve had it longer, but didn’t use it).
i realise that £30 is cheap and what-did-i-expect, but after cracking the case i discovered that the ‘resistance’ was offered by something similar to dental floss.

not mine. yet.
why i fucking love being alive in the 21st century.
e and k are currently on holiday in laos. i’ve been following their travels using wikitravel and flickr et al (for other peoples photos of the area). i would be using gearth but my connection isn’t good enough at home.
i’m sitting following my sunday routine, digesting my feeds.
digsby pops up with an email from e. he tells me they’ve just done a laotian cooking course and made the most amazing dish called mok pa.
i google it, find (of course), laocook blog with video instruction (with a-team intro, by a guy with a london accent).
one of the ingredients is banana leaf. unlikely they sell it in a supermarket, so i google ‘asian supermarket portsmouth’ and find ‘akrams oriental supermarket’ in southsea.
i skype them, speak to the guy and find out they do sell them (frozen).
i get the postcode and its sitting in my satnav waiting to go.
its taken 5mins.
i’m in my dressing gown with a coffee.
damn straight.
cheers, e/laocook.
[edit - an hour and a half later]

just have to defrost the banana leaves

yep.
[edit - 4scrape is dead]
i’m on a endless search for ‘the’ wallpaper but my attention span and distain for long term relationships with anything electrical means i’m looking. always looking.
4scrape is quite handy, it just keeps going.
warning – some will make you make a face.
